Inside the "control room" where all the power came from...
In the autumn of 1999 I converted what was formerly the "store room" into a little workshop- with the leftovers from our kitchen that was renovated that summer. I moved out the tatty old shelves that kept falling apart, and installed a sizeable bit of unused worktop, the old but still useable kitchen cupboards and some new wall mounted shelves. Of course, me being me, to this day that room is still primarilly used for storage- as you can see under the bench and to the left (those two PC screens are just stored there, not part of some elaborate control system!).
Anyway, as with every year previously, it briefly changed its role into "command central" for the lights during December and early January. The same light sensor/timer arrangement was used to control the lights, and I used those colour-changing LED lights powered by the yellow-fronted controller too. However, they changed location since a blue bit of Neon Ropelight was used in this window- they adorned the artificial pine ring on the front door instead.
The power unit on the right with the meters on the front was used to power two home made LED tree-silhouettes that were hung in the windows either side on the front door. One red and one green, they were made of copper wire soldered together, and ran from 10 volts DC. Unfortunately these are not in any of the photos I took that year.
